Is it love, is it lust, or is Gwen Stefani just having a ton of fun with her platinum strands these days? The singer always hits the judges panel on The Voice with bold new looks, and her hairstylist Danilo credits her beauty chameleon ways to self-expression.

Stefani went for a boho vibe Tuesday night, pairing straight hair and rope braids with a gold head chain by Lana Jewelry — but even crazier was Monday’s “tribal” ‘do, flaunting pigtail braids with a topknot counterpart.
“Gwen was wearing a couture Valentino dress so I thought, ‘Let’s give her something chic,’” Danilo says about Monday’s look. “It’s a contemporary couture take on tribal. Gwen has always been someone who can express herself through her hair.”

And she’s been doing a great job at that. The singer has taken us on a wild ride in the hair department this season — her and Danilo have delivered some serious looks. But we’re noticing a serious shift in imagination from her last season. (Maybe the relationship between Gwen and Blake Shelton has her feeling full of adventure and creativity?)
“It’s really the amazing platform we have with The Voice to be able to play dress up and debut so many versatile looks,” Danilo says. “Gwen has such a confidence and playfulness to her right now that allows for her to pull off anything and do it well.”

This isn’t the first time she’s been adventurous with her strands on the show — the fun began with Stefani’s dip-dyed asymmetrical ponytail in season 7 — and while that was among the boldest of her looks from that go around (she pretty much kept it safe with stylish waves), things have gotten bigger and better during season 9.
“The looks over the past three years and to the present have always been spontaneous and very in the moment,” Danilo says of the shift. “My mantra is ‘let’s make it modern’ and I think that’s what’s influenced her hair evolution over time too.”

But as far as her most exciting looks are concerned, Danilo says that their favorites are “what’s to come.”
“We don’t have enough days left in the season to show you what we want to do, but I will say we will be going out with a bang,” he shares.
